As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth; it will not return empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which sent it. - Isaiah 55:10-11

What a great promise this verse holds for us! As I look out the window in the starkness of winter, I am so grateful that not only is there purpose in the snow (it waters the earth just like rain in the Summer!), but even more importantly, God's Word will not return empty, but will accomplish what He desires! It is a promise that we hold tightly to as we continue to trust God's purpose for us here in Lisbon, IA.

As we meet together in our Sunday morning and Wednesday night gatherings, we are learning about what it means to be the body of Christ, not just to do church. God is working in our midst to convict us of sin, grow our love for each other and give us a deeper hunger for His Word. We know this can only be the work of the Holy Spirit, and we are so grateful for God's presence in our lives. With the first month of the year we began some new things at Uncommon Church:

  • Five of our men went to a men's retreat up in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. The retreat was focused simply on reading Scripture, worship and prayer, and was a good bonding time for the five men from Uncommon Church that attended.

  • The women of Uncommon Church have begun meeting for a Bible study on Saturday mornings. We will be studying abiding with Christ as we look at I, II, and III John.

  • On Sunday nights we are gathering for a "movie night" to watch the Chosen series. We are praying that this will be a casual time to gather and invite friends to look at the life of Christ.

We continue to pray that God will build our core team and our church. We trust in God's timing as He leads and brings the people He wants to be a part of this community. Here are some specific ways you can pray for us:

  • Please pray for us as we begin planning VBS and children's programming for the Summer. We are looking for at least 3 interns to help do VBS and children's programming over the Summer.

  • Please pray that God will bring the right team for the Summer. We are grateful that we have one potential intern already!

  • Please pray as we are seeking ways to make an impact for Christ in our community.

We believe that God is working all around us, and we are excited to see the opportunities He brings to us.

Thank you for your love and support! God is working through your prayers, and we are so grateful for you!
