Jumping to chapter 8 (last week, chapters 5-7 were not recorded), the people of Israel ask for a king. It is not the request that is the problem. It is the kind of king they want. Looking at other Old Testament texts, we learn the kind of king they need and that humble dependence on God, which brings transformation, is God’s desire for the king and His people.
